Tudor Beasts Gold Coins from BGASC

Embark on a regal journey through history with The Royal Mint’s latest collection of silver and gold coins, paying homage to the illustrious Tudor dynasty that held sway over the English throne from 1485 to 1603. In contrast to the previous Queen’s Beasts Series spanning 2016-2021, the all-new Tudor Beasts Series offers a captivating exploration of this iconic era in British monarchy, showcasing the remarkable Tudors who left an indelible mark on history.

Packaging for Tudor Beasts Gold Coins

Just like its predecessor, the Tudor Beasts Series presents a range of packaging options for both BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) and Proof design releases. BU Gold Tudor Beasts are available in 1 oz and 1/4 oz gold options. The 1 oz gold coin is individually encased in plastic flips, while multiples can be acquired in acrylic tubes of 10 coins or Monster Boxes containing 100 coins. Similarly, the 1/4 oz gold coin is offered individually in flips, with plastic tubes of 25 coins and Monster Boxes of 500 coins.

The Proof Gold Tudor Beasts boast individual packaging, featuring coins encapsulated within wooden presentation boxes. Each box is then safely housed in a themed outer shipper, accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity for added prestige.

Captivating Designs of the Tudor Beasts Series

Drawing inspiration from the stone statues adorning Moat Bridge, the entrance to Hampton Court, the Tudor Beasts Series brings to life the first creature in the collection: the Seymour Panther. Gifted to Jane Seymour upon her marriage to King Henry VIII, this heraldic beast showcases a spotted frame with flames emanating from the mouth and ears, supporting a shield adorned with the Seymour Wings. Subsequent designs include:

  • The second design spotlights the powerful Lion of England, seated behind a shield featuring the impaled arms of King Henry VIII and Jane Seymour.
  • The third design reintroduces the Yale of Beaufort, symbolizing Jane Seymour’s authority as the third wife of King Henry VIII.
  • Continuing the legacy, the fourth design showcases the Bull of Clarence, featuring the Tudor Rose, a symbol of unity between the House of Lancaster and House of York.
  • The fifth design features the Seymour Unicorn, bestowed upon Jane Seymour by King Henry VIII to symbolize purity and grace.
  • The sixth design showcases the Tudor Dragon, a reminder of the Welsh heritage present in the House of Tudor.

Monarch Portraits in the Tudor Beasts Series

Following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022, the obverse design of Tudor Beasts coins underwent a change. From the debut issue to the Yale of Beaufort issue, Jody Clark’s right-profile bust of Elizabeth II adorned the coins. From the Bull of Clarence issue onwards in 2023, His Majesty King Charles III graces the obverse with a left-profile bust crafted by Martin Jennings.

Insights into the Tudor Dynasty

The Tudor Dynasty, founded by King Henry VII, played a pivotal role in English history, ending the Wars of the Roses and setting the stage for his son, King Henry VIII, and granddaughter, Elizabeth I.

Please note, that in this series The Royal Mint does not follow the exact same order of issue for the BU and Proof versions of the coins. The Proof Tudor Beasts started with the Seymour Panther. While all issues from the Lion of England onward are the same in the BU and Proof collections, the Seymour Panther has yet to feature in the BU collection.
