The S.S. Tilawa was a British-Indian passenger and cargo ship that tragically sank during World War II. On November 23, 1942, while traveling from Bombay to Durban, South Africa, the ship was hit by a torpedo from a Japanese submarine. The attack occurred in the Indian Ocean, about 930 miles northeast of the Seychelles, causing the ship to sink. Onboard were 958 people, along with precious silver bullion. History

In 2017, Argentum Exploration Ltd. undertook an ambitious mission to recover the lost cargo of silver from the Tilawa. With state-of-the-art technology, the team located the wreckage at a depth of nearly 9,200 feet, and the silver bars were brought to the surface for refinement.
