Obverse
The obverse side of the 1887 Morgan Dollar Coins features the elegant Lady Liberty. Showcasing a left-profile bust, this design embodies the artistic vision of the 19th century, with Liberty adorned with a Phrygian cap, laurel wreath, and coronet crown.
Reverse
On the reverse field of the 1887 Morgan Dollars, you will discover the emblematic heraldic eagle of the United States. Created by the talented George T. Morgan, this design portrays the majestic American bald eagle in a commanding front-facing relief. With its wings outstretched, the eagle confidently holds the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons.
History
In 1887, the Philadelphia Mint struck an astonishing 20.290 million coins in the Morgan Dollar Series, making it the second-highest mintage figure from the 1880s, surpassed only by the 1889 release of Morgans, when Philadelphia minted over 21.7 million coins.
