Obverse

The obverse of the Germania Mint Gods Tyr Cast Silver Bar features essential hallmarks. Reverse

On the reverse, the 2 oz Tyr Cast Silver Bar displays a colorized image of Tyr. Shown with one hand, surrounded by flames, and wielding a large sword in his left hand, Tyr is a significant figure in the myth of Fenrir’s Binding. To bind the fearsome wolf Fenrir, Tyr bravely placed his hand in Fenrirs mouth as a pledge of good faith. When Fenrir realized he was bound, he bit off Tyrs hand.

History

The Germanic Gods Series is the second series of mythological figures presented on cast silver bars by Germania Mint. Each bar features a vivid colorized image on the reverse and hallmarks stamped on the obverse. This release honors Tyr, the second god in a planned series of six, with each bar uniquely numbered.

Tyr was highly revered among ancient Germanic and Norse warrior cultures. Warriors often invoked his name before battle, seeking his favor for victory and protection. In Old Norse literature, Tyr is frequently mentioned in kennings (poetic metaphors), where he is referred to as the “one-handed god” or the “sacrificer of the hand,” highlighting his sacrifice for the greater good.
