Obverse

The obverse of the 2024 Proof Mexican Gold Libertad features the Mexican coat of arms. This emblem, inspired by an Aztec symbol from the Codex Mendoza in 1524, shows a Golden eagle in left-profile perched on a prickly pear cactus, engaged in a battle with a serpent.

Reverse

The reverse side of the 2024 1/2 oz Proof Gold Libertad Coin depicts the Mexican Independence Victory Column. At the top of this column stands Winged Victory, with the volcanic peaks of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl seen in the distance.

History

The first 1/2 oz Proof Gold Libertad was issued in 1989, with only 704 coins produced. From 2004 onwards, this coin has been released annually, often with limited mintages. The highest mintage was in 2016 with 2,100 coins, while the lowest was in 2004 with just 200 coins made.
