Obverse

On the obverse side of these nickels, you’ll find President Jefferson’s left-profile bust, designed by Felix Schlag. This classic image adorned the US Nickel until 2004.

Reverse

Meanwhile, the reverse side boasts a depiction of Monticello, also created by Schlag in 1938. Although briefly replaced in the early 2000s, this timeless design returned in 2006 and has remained since.

History

Monticello was not only a residence but also a working plantation. Jefferson experimented with various crops and agricultural techniques on the plantation. He also meticulously designed the gardens, which featured ornamental flowers, vegetables, and fruit trees.
