Johnson Matthey Silver Bars at BGASC
The history of Johnson Matthey can be traced back to 1817. During that time, Percival Johnson opened a gold assayer building in London. Less than 40 years later, George Matthey joined the company, the name was changed to Johnson Matthey, and they became the official assayer to the Bank of England. They quickly became one of the top names in the precious metals industry. While they sold their gold and silver refiners to Asahi Refining in 2015, their bullion products are still immensely popular, especially as secondary market items. What is a Secondary Market bar?
A secondary market bar is a bar that we receive from someone other than the original mint. Essentially, a Johnson Matthey secondary market bar is one that we received from a source other than Johnson Matthey.
Johnson Matthey Minted Ingots
At BGASC, we have a wide array of minted ingots from Johnson Matthey. These bars are available in sizes such as 1 oz, 10 oz, and 100 oz. Every minted ingot from Johnson Matthey will have a purity of .999 pure silver. These bars contain the Johnson Matthey logo, the metal purity, content, and a unique serial number on the obverse. The reverse of these bars features a repeating pattern of the Johnson Matthey logo.
Because these are secondary market bars, they may arrive with scratches, nicks, or other surface marks. Bars will arrive individually in plastic flips.
Johnson Matthey Cast Bars
Johnson Matthey also creates several unique cast silver bars. These bars are mined in several sizes such as 5 oz, 1 kilogram, and 100 oz.
These cast bars will display identifying marks of the bar on the obverse while the reverse is left intentionally blank. These Silver Bars will have the logo of the mint, metal content, purity, and in some cases, a serial number on the obverse.
There is some variety with these cast bars, such as the Canadian Serial # bar, which was assayed in Canada. Bars will arrive individually in protective plastic.
