British Gold Sovereign Coins
Originating from the Great Recoinage of 1817, the contemporary British Gold Sovereign serves as the bullion rendition of the historic Gold Sovereign that circulated in the United Kingdom from 1817 to the early 20th century. The modern British Gold Sovereign is a 22-karat gold coin with a gold content of 91.67% per coin. For several decades, it featured Queen Elizabeth II’s effigy until her passing in September 2022. In early 2023, Gold Sovereigns with a portrait of King Charles III were introduced, marking a historic shift. Over 200 years since its introduction, the Gold Sovereign predominantly showcases Benedetto Pistrucci’s iconic 1817 depiction of St. George slaying a dragon on the reverse, with occasional replacements for commemorative occasions.
British Gold Britannia Coins
The cornerstone of the Royal Mint’s numismatic offerings is the British Gold Britannia coin. Introduced in 1987 with a gold content of .917 fine gold, the coins transitioned to 24-karat pure gold with .9999 fine gold content in 2013. Celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2017, the Gold Britannia boasts remarkable features:

- Contains 1 Troy oz. of .9999 pure gold in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.

The design of the Gold Britannia remains consistent, featuring the enduring image of Britannia on the reverse and various portraits of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. Notably, from 2023 onward, King Charles III is showcased on the Gold Britannias with a left-profile relief, sans crown, in accordance with tradition for new monarchs.
